Our Volunteering and Employability Pathway is aimed at giving young people and young adults with SEND the opportunity to gain work experience.
This programme offers work experience in several areas of our charity. We will provide you with one-on-one support to increase your independence and workplace skills. The aim is to equip you with the skills to build your CV, increase your confidence in workplace environments and become work-ready.
This pathway is open to disabled people who are:
- Aged between 16 and 30 years
- Looking to gain work experience
- Looking to increase knowledge of workplace environments
Programme Information – 6 weeks of support
The programme will run for six weeks with 2.5hr sessions twice a week.
You can choose to start your work experience in one of these areas:
- Customer service and administration
- Food and beverages sales assistant
- Creating digital content for social media
- Creating and delivering children’s activities
Our friendly coaches will initially meet with you to listen to your aspirations and help to design a programme that is tailored to what you would like to achieve. From here, they will work with you on a one-to-one basis to support you through your personalised programme and build your skills in areas such as:
- Gain the skills and confidence to complete activities within your chosen area
- Support writing your CV and covering letter – identifying your strengths and transferable skills
- Preparation for job interviews
- Supporting with career exploration, including how and where to look for jobs
- Develop general skills, understanding and confidence in the workplace
- How to talk to your employer about your impairment and reasonable adjustments
- Confidence in working standards, such as the importance of good timekeeping, professionalism and health and safety
Your coach will set you tasks to complete at home as well such as:
- Keeping a reflective journal
- Drafting documents, such as CVs or cover letters
- Online information gathering
