Springboard’s Sutton 18+ (SMILE +) group provides support to disabled young adults through sessions, activities, trips and breaks that build independence, transferable life skills and social interaction equal to that of their non-disabled peers.

The group also helps with the transition from children’s services to adult services as well as giving parents and carers a break from their caring role.

Sessions focus around developing and sustaining disabled young adults friendships, social networks and interactions. Further develop life skills and building on their independence by supporting them to take part in a variety of enjoyable, recreational and social activities such as the cinema, restaurants, bowling, theme parks, sporting venues, shops, arts/heritage venues and local parks/facilities.

Staff support individuals in an inclusive group setting in their local community and assist individuals to further develop life skills. This includes making choices, money handling, using public transport and sharing experiences which increases their self -esteem, independence, confidence and social skills as well as encouraging physical exercise, improving motor skills and introducing new opportunities.

Sessions run all year round, both during the school term and college/school holidays. Activities are tailored to ages and abilities and include sessions in house, in the local community and where possible trips further afield. 

Sessions are designed for those 18+, with a strong emphasis on transitioning in adulthood and building independence.

We aim to ensure that everyone has fair and equal access to our sessions so that as many families and young people are able to access the sessions as possible.

You can access Springboard’s Sutton 18+ (SMILE +) either via referral from the London Borough of Sutton or self refer.  If you live in neighbouring London Boroughs, you can also self refer.

After referral, Springboard meet the young adult and their parents/carers to identify appropriate sessions, level of support required and to ensure the group is right for the individual.
